Top 5 Crazy Theories From Avengers Infinity War

By Ricci Kearney

Warning: This post contains spoilers for Avengers Infinity War.

We are a little over a week removed from the event that was Avengers: Infinity War. As our memories of Thanos slowly fade away like dust into the Marvel Universe, we can now begin our journey into the cosmos of rumors that are Avengers 4! I want to give you my top 5 theories on Avengers 4 and what will be next for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

CAPTAIN MARVEL RESCUES THE AVENGERS
Now, this may be less of a rumor than just a matter of when. We know that Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel will have her solo debut next year before making her return in Avengers 4. This was made evident when former S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury, as well as Agent Maria Hill, were seen fading away into cosmic dust during the after credit scene of Avengers: Infinity War.

Fury’s last act as a tangible human being was to use his fancy space pager to send a signal. That message was, I assume, received as we see Captain Marvel’s logo appear on the screen. So, after her debut in her solo movie, expect Carol Danvers (with her modern day costume and full mohawk badassness), to lay the ultimate smackdown on Thanos and lead the charge in saving our favorite heroes.

Marvel Studios head hero-in-charge, Kevin Feige, has gone on record stating that Captain Marvel will be the strongest Avenger. So showing up from outer space and beating Thanos until he is black, blue, and purple would be a great way to establish her strength in the MCU. And, it is my theory, that she will not be alone.

THE GALACTIC AVENGERS DEBUT
One shocking turn of events that we could get in Avengers 4 is the debut of the… GALACTIC AVENGERS! Lame name, I know, but this could be epic! Assuming that the page sent at the end of Avengers: Infinity War is soaring through the cosmos to reach it’s intended recipient in space, I would like to believe that Captain Marvel will not return to earth alone.

Since Captain Marvel’s movie takes place in the 90s, it could end with her soaring into space to be a hero there. This would explain her lack of intervention or involvement during the Battle of New York in the first Avengers film and the battle of Sakovia in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Could she have been gathering allies for the impending attack on Earth by Thanos? I think yes!

Imagine Captain Marvel showing up to confront Thanos with our fellow, surviving, Avengers only to say that she has not come alone! She brings with her the different leaders of the Ravager factions (as known to comic fans as the original guardians of the galaxy) seen together at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Other possible character appearances include Adam Warlock, who was hinted to in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2; the strongest member of the Nova Corps. Richard Rider; we could even get, depending on the events of the Captain Marvel movie, Captain Mar-Vell and the Kree Empire! This would be an epic final battle to rival that of Infinity War. A collection of the galaxy’s most powerful heroes should be enough to take down Thanos and destroy the Infinity Gauntlet once and for all.

PART OF THE MOVIE TAKES PLACE IN THE SOUL STONE
If you have picked up any Marvel comic book featuring any of their cinematic heroes, you know that that the MCU takes its liberties with the characters, powers, and storylines in the comics. Avengers: Infinity War is no different. The movie is mostly accurate with the abilities of the Infinity Stones and most of the powers of the stones are present in the movie except one… the Soul Stone.

Now we can argue that it was the Soul Stone or the combined collection of all the Infinity Stones together, that was used to erase our heroes from existence with a snap of Thanos’s fingers. If it was the Soul Stone, then could the movie follow along with the power of the stone in the comics?

In the comics, every soul taken by the Soul Stone becomes trapped within the stone itself for all eternity. My theory is that Avengers 4 opens up within the Soul Stone. Spider-Man, Black Panther, Winter Soldier and others awaken to find themselves transported to a new location. Here they must constantly fight for their lives against other creatures and beings that the soul stone has destroyed.

Could other current or future MCU villains be residing in the stone to cause trouble for our heroes? Could this be a way for Marvel to bring back fan favorites like Killmonger or Hela? Once our heroes escape, what other terrors cold also make their way to Earth? Could the removal and return of that many would cause Death herself, Thanos’s love, to debut in the MCU? This will make it even more powerful when Tony eventually dons the Gauntlet to release his friends, ending his own life on the process. This could be a great set up for the future of Marvel’s Phase 4 of the MCU.

TIME TRAVEL
In the age of social media, it is almost impossible to keep anything a secret when shooting a movie as big as Avengers: Infinity War and it’s sequel. Set pics and behind the scenes videos shot by fans and paparazzi made their way into our ocular senses long before the first trailer even debuted. The spoilerific images were so prevalent even Matt Murdock couldn’t avoid seeing them. Some of those images point towards our next theory… TIME TRAVEL.

Images surfaced of an older, grayer, Tony Stark on the set of Avengers: Infinity War as well as Captain America in his original costume from the first Avengers film. This along with casting notices leaked for a teenage girl who is rumored to be an older Cassie Lang, there are rumors that Avengers 4 takes place 5 years after Avengers: Infinity War. This would allow us to see if Thanos was right and if Earth is better off without half of his population. This would also allow us to see a new version of our surviving heroes. Has Shuri taken the mantle of Queen of Wakanda and it’s new Black Panther? Is there a new Sorcerer Supreme? Has Miles Morales become Spider-Man? Has Hulk gotten over his… performance issues?

My theory is that 5 years into the future Tony, Shuri, Banner, and Wong have discovered a way to travel through time. They decide to gather the remaining heroes and take the fight to Thanos during the Battle of New York. This would explain Cap’s old suit making an appearance during filming. It is there where Earth’s Mightiest Heroes make their stand against Thanos and attempt to stop him from getting the Gauntlet in the first place, therefore preventing the destruction of half the known universe.

MARVEL’S FIRST FAMILY DEBUTS
In December 2017 all the rumors came to a rest as it was announced that Disney will officially purchase the film and television properties of 21st Century Fox. You know, that studio that holds some of Marvel’s most IMPORTANT properties such as X-Men and Deadpool! However, there is one property in particular that could turn the tides of Avengers: Infinity War and lead to a huge debut and a huge franchise for a certain group of heroes. A… family if you will.

With Disney acquiring the rights to Marvel’s properties over at 1st Century Fox, they will have full reign to debut the Fantastic Four! The Fantastic Four have had a very questionable cinematic history and Marvel could do for them what they did for Spider-Man. The Fantastic Four’s comic origins are soaked in cosmic adventures over multiple galaxies. Their battles with Galactus in the comics are the stuff of legends.

When Captain Marvel debuts, could she also bring with her the Fantastic Four from one of their space odysseys smack dab into the MCU? And with the Fantastic Four comes the Silver Surfer and the POWER COSMIC! The Fantastic Four would be an amazing addition to the MCU and could definitely leave their mark debuting in Avengers 4 and assisting in saving our fallen heroes.

So there you have it! My top 5 Avengers 4 theories! What do you think? What are your theories on Avengers 4 and the next chapter in the journey of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes? Please leave your theories and comments below! Until next time,
