Day 3 Highlights at SDCC

Our first task of the day was of course to get into Hall H – the craziest experience that can be had at comic con. On the previous day we sent Hero Within teams to queue to get a wristband for entry that day and then it was an early start to get great seats in the hall. It was completely worth it, as attendees of Hall H not only got to see the trailers of Warner Brother’s upcoming films first, we also saw the stars of those films, along with a few surprises and exclusive footage shown to us.

WW84

From the DC universe, Wonder Woman was up first! Director Patty Jenkins, Chris Pine and Gal Gadot joined Aisha Taylor on stage to discuss their thought processes around the film, how they bring the characters to life, and what it means to them to be able to play these parts for a second time. Patty confirmed that although this was the second serving of Wonder Woman, it is NOT a direct follow on, it is its own story. They brought along with them some rough footage of what we can expect, which shows Wonder Woman saving a small child from the crossfire of guns in a shopping centre and her almost Flash-like run as she paces down the streets of Washington. What can we expect from Wonder Woman? Well, the same characteristics of course, along with bright and shiny suit and retro looks and vibes. We cannot wait to see more from WW84.

Shazam!

Next, it was time for Shazam! Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer and director David F Sandberg sat in front of the audience. Zach donned a can of Guinness which Jason Momoa had given him back stage.

The cast explained how fun the film was going to be, which for DC is a first! A member of the audience asked if other Superheroes or characters were going to be in the film, the answer was basically a very cryptic YES! We can expect to see others in this film, but there was no confirmation of who. People, myself included have been sceptical on what this could be like, but if the trailer is anything to go by, it is going to be incredible, bold and unlike anything we have seen before. In the trailer we saw the change of Billy Batson into Shazam, test shots of him testing his super-powers and a little peak at villain Dr Sivana played by Mark Strong. It’s safe to say, this film has outstretched everyone’s expectations so far, and we are looking forward to seeing more from this movie. Shazam hits cinemas in April 2019!

Aquaman

Last but not least was Aquaman. Main man Jason Momoa exploded on the stage and expressed how hyped and excited he was for the film and for us to finally see the first trailer!

The rest of the cast joined him (Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen) and director James Wan as they discussed what we can expect from the film, what was to come, and what challenges they had making a film that was located underwater.

James Wan has been very good at keeping this film under wraps, and we have only seen content when he wants us to see it. And well, it was worth the wait! The first trailer was exciting, bold and different to what we have seen before. We also saw a better look at villain – Black Manta along with a snippet of his powers and capabilities.

Not only did we get to see that, James Wan treated us to extra footage of the film! In this we saw more of Atlantis and where it was located, along with gladiator fight scenes and sea creatures. This was exclusive to those that were in Hall H, and it was an honour to be a part of it!

Hero Within After Party at Volcano Rabbit

We wanted to celebrate our second anniversary of Hero Within with those that got us there. So we did just that at our after party at Volcano Rabbit last night. We were born at comic con and because of comic con, so why not celebrate at comic con! What a great night it was! Even Batman and The Hulk turned up for a dance!

At the door the first 100 guests were given exclusive Hero Within capes to unleash their inner superhero! Were you lucky enough to get one?

DJ Sean Patrick helped to host the night and played great tunes for our guests to dance to. He did a great job and there was never a moment when the dancefloor was empty. We want to thank everyone who came along to celebrate with us, we had a great night and hope that you guys did too! Join us for the next after party next year!
