We've already established how DC continues to make its presence known at SDCC this year, and premiering one of the most anticipated Batman stories as a full-length film will definitely add to DC's dominance. Batman: The Killing Joke is based on one of the most popular stories about The Joker, his origin, and the course of Barbara Gordon and her role in the DC Universe.
The stakes get higher as the original voice actors Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill return to play their original roles as Batman and The Joker, respectively. Most of us know that these two had some of the best hero and villain chemistry in the legendary Batman: The Animated Series from the 90's.
On top of the anticipation, this will be DC's first R-rated animated film. If you're familiar with the story at all (recommended), it's safe to say that these scenes are not suitable for children. This will definitely put the Batman film world as we know it in a new light or shades of darkness.
Of course with no spoilers, it goes without saying that like any Batman tale, there's always a fight for hope and a light for redemption.
What's cool about this SDCC event is that it kicks off with a panel prior to the screening. Sam Liu (director) and actors like Tara Strong (Barbara Gordon) and Ray Wise (Commissioner Gordon) will talk about how the prolific graphic novel transitioned to film.
If you're not able to make it to the world premiere of Batman: The Killing Joke at SDCC, there are two other opportunities. Fathom Events will be showing the film in movie theaters for one night only the Monday July 25th for one night only in local movie theaters.
You can also redeem yourselves further and purchase Batman: The Killing Joke July 26, 2016 on Digital HD and August 2, 2016 on Blu-Ray™ Deluxe Edition, Blu-Ray™ Combo Pack and DVD. This means you don't have to wait long after its premiere.
Whether you plan on buying the Blu-Ray or going to the Fathom Event, The Killing Joke premiere at SDCC will definitely be an exclusive where you'll want the last laugh.
