Day 2 of SDCC was a huge success and very action packed for us at Hero Within. Not only did we have a great day at the booth, we also have a great day talking at panels and presenting our products at the DC Comics booth.
DC Comics
For DC there were even more trailers and first looks for some of the TV shows that would be featured on the DC Universe streaming service. Yesterday we got to see a first look at Young Justice and Scott Snyder announced a HUGE crossover event for DC which is due to hit in 2019.
Tony hosted a stage demo at the DC Booth, which was hosted by Cosplayer Trisha Hershberger. Trisha did a WONDERful job at hosting and engaging the audience – which was huge, we had a great turnout at the demo. The pair talked a bit about the brand, why Hero Within was launched, and covered some of our most popular products. Not only that but a few themes were announced for some upcoming pieces from our collection… Aquaman, Shazam and Wonder Woman 84! Stay tuned for more information.
We also took that opportunity to reveal our Charity Auction Jacket which is signed by numerous celebrities, including Candice Patton, Grant Gustin, Cameron Cuffe, Alex Sinclair, Brandon Routh and many more! The jacket was created by designer Leetal Platt and is made from the exclusive WB swag bags that are given out to attendees at SDCC. You can submit a bid at our booth #2047, and all proceeds go to the Fashion for Foster Kids charity.
Marvel
For Marvel we got lots of announcements! First the announcement of a season 2 for Cloak and Dagger! The show has proved to be hugely popular since its release and the studios have recognised that.
In comics, Marvel announced a few new titles and returns, these include; Marvel Knights, Spider-Geddon and Venom Annual #1. Which comes at a great time as the Sony panel also took place.
Although there were lots of positive news and announcements, a special surprise was cancelled at SDCC due to the tweets and events focused around director James Gunn. Pom Klementieff and Paul Bettany were rumoured to do a surprise announcement of the DVD release of Infinity War during the Sony panel yesterday. Unfortunately, things were put on hold due to those events!
Hero Within
Our CEO Tony Kim moderated and contributed to two panels yesterday to help aspiring geek brands and fashion apparel find their way and build their brand.
The first was the “How To Build Your Geek Brand And Get Paid” panel. Hosted by Tony himself, alongside three other entrepreneurs in the geek industry - Chris Gore (writer & creator), Genese Davis (author) and Andre Meadows (YouTube host).
During the panel, the entrepreneurs offered advice on how to build a brand of your own, and how to take it to the next level. For those that missed it, here is an overview of what was covered;
The second one was a panel called “Create Your Own Fandom-Themed Fashions”, which allowed current professionals in the geek fashion industry to explain how they got where they are, how they started and offered advice to attendees. The panel featured, Tony Kim, Jordan Ellis (Jordandene), Tiffany Mink (Whosits & Whatsits), Camille Falciola (Her Universe Fashion Show Winner), Jesse Thaxton (Her Universe Fashion Show Winner), Leetal Platt (Her Universe Fashion Show Winner), and Linda Rhodes (1138 Clothing). The panel was moderated by Stephanie Pressman and Samantha Mason from Fashionably Nerdy.
The panel was extremely varied, with the panelists covering a wide range of techniques, backgrounds and design styles. They covered a range of topics, including licensing, fabric printing and whether or not to have a collection or a few pieces before trying to make it big! At the end the panel hosted a Q&A where guests could explain their problem and get personalise and detailed advice and responses specific to their issues.
