I like the quality of the product

I like the quality of the product, however the sizing is off. So far I’ve ordered Medium size jackets and they’ve all fit me well, but on the DS9 jacket, the Medium is way too tight under the arms/armpit area. Unfortunately this makes the jacket almost not wearable, as it is very uncomfortable:(

Well worth the wait

The quality of this jacket is insanely-good! The grey-shouldered uniforms, first introduced in the movie “Star Trek First Contact” have always been my favourite, but I’d been holding out for a replica which was as close to screen accurate as possible. This is probably the closest you’ll ever get. It feels sturdy, premium and warm. I love how it looks and feels. Even the add-on Velcro departmental colour stripes for the sleeves feel premium and so perfectly-matched to the colours on screen. The zip goes up to just the right level, as no-one ever zipped it right the way up to the neck (apart from those weird first few episodes Captain Sisko did!). Plus, the many pockets on the inside and outside are big and handy for anything you want to put in them. Finally, the schematics of DS9 on the inside look amazing and accurate. Whether you’re wearing this as a cosplay piece or just a day to day jacket, it’s well worth the price.

DS9 Tunic Jacket

I always thought Starfleet uniforms from 1996 to 2002 looked cool. They were as fashionable in the 24th century as Derby Jackets or Sir Jacs were iconic between the 1950’s to 1970’s. Without wearing additional accessories, the Hero Within DS9 tunic jacket blends in easily with the crowd.

I previously owned a DS9 cosplay uniform that I cherished to wear at the local Star Trek conventions. There were some good and bad aspects to that DS9 cosplay uniform. First of all, it’s not a jacket. Therefore, it didn’t keep me warm when standing in line outside of the windy convention center. Aesthetically, the DS9 cosplay uniform looked like the real outfit from the TV series with one exception. The cuff area needs to be tapered because too much wrist is exposed.

The Hero Within DS9 tunic jacket remedied the problem I had with the DS9 cosplay uniform. In fact, the tailor even added an additional snap button if I wanted tighter closure to the cuff area. Overall, I found that I did not have a need to adjust the tautness of the sleeve cuff because it was correctly made from the get-go.

Do you feel like being in a command role today or would you rather just be an operations officer for a couple of hours? It’s up to you because this product offers three colored pairs of velcro rank strips that can be easily interchanged at will.

Though Starfleet officers don’t have a need for pockets, citizens on planet Earth today certainly need them. At first, I only noticed there were two inside pockets, but I later found a zipper pull tab to a secret external pocket (first on one side, then the other). There are four pockets in total.

The only nitpick I have about the DS9 tunic jacket is that the armpit slot is a tad higher than I would prefer. This is not a surprise since clothing from Asian countries are typically designed for lanky bodies. Please note that I also own the Enterprise flight jacket in the same large size. However, the armpit slot position on that jacket is perfect the way it is. My guess for this minor flaw in the design of the DS9 tunic jacket is a result of the top portion (gray area) made from a different material than that of the lower portion (black area). The two portions of material (polyester and nylon) meet at the seam of the chest area. The polyester part (gray area) flares out like a shredded tire on the side of the road. The bulkiness of the gray area is possibly the reason why the armpit slot is slightly elevated.

In reference to the opening paragraph, the DS9 tunic jacket is not remarkable by itself. I purchased three pieces of accessory to make the jacket stand out. They include a red-colored dickie (a fake vest), four metal division pips, and a magnetic Starfleet comm badge. I bought these accessories ahead of the arrival date for receiving my DS9 tunic jacket. Was it worth the investment? Absolutely!
